CAN THE DISTANCE BE SHORTENED?

Sometimes.

Move the truck closer or stage the pile closer to the work area when practical. But access, setup, handling, and cleanup can add time.

CAN YOU INCREASE THE LOAD EACH TRIP?

Maybe.

Depends on the crew and equipment. Pushing larger loads wears the crew down. Equipment needs access.

CAN THE CREW’S PACE INCREASE?

Heat and humidity affect people differently and conditions can change throughout the day. They can reduce a sustainable pace and increase the need for hydration, recovery and breaks. The distance is still there, but the time and effort needed to cover it can change.
CREW
FATIGUEYour crew at 9 A.M. is not the same crew at 3 P.M.Repeated trips add up—and every crew responds differently. VIEW MORE
Fatigue builds as repeated pushing, walking back and reloading continue. Experience, conditioning, weather, terrain and the rest of the workload can all affect how quickly it shows up. There is no honest universal fatigue factor for every crew, but it still belongs in the job plan.
ACCESS
MACHINE ACCESSMachines are limited by their footprint.When a machine can’t reach an area, the material won’t either. VIEW MORE
Tow-behind carriers, front-mounted carts, and loaders can reduce trips in open areas. But machine width, weight, turf conditions, operator skill, and final placement access determine where they can actually be used. If a machine cannot reach the placement area, the material won’t either.
